A child is among two people killed in a house fire in Grangetown, Cleveland Police confirmed on 26 August, as reported by the Daily Express. The victims have not yet been formally identified.

Officers were called to the property at 5.23am. A 48-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in a critical condition, while three further individuals sustained injuries not currently considered life-threatening.

Two men, aged 23 and 31, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody. Enquiries are ongoing.

Superintendent Emily Harrison, Redcar and Cleveland Local Policing Commander, said: "As we continue to investigate this morning's tragic incident, we continue to support the families of those who have sadly died as a result."

Harrison added that officers could not rule out links to organised crime. "We continue to work to establish the circumstances of exactly what has happened, but we are keeping an open mind and cannot rule out any links to wider organised crime at this time," she said.

A heightened police presence has been deployed in the Grangetown area. "We will have a high visibility presence in the Grangetown area and encourage anyone who has concerns, or who may have information, to approach our officers," Harrison said.
