The incident occurred just before midnight on Tuesday, when officers on patrol spotted a silver Nissan Juke travelling at high speed along the Glen Road. Both officers attended hospital for treatment on Wednesday morning, police confirmed.

The two men were arrested at the scene and subsequently charged. The first, aged 39, faces a range of offences including dangerous driving, driving without a licence, using a motor vehicle without valid insurance, attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, and failing to provide a specimen while driving unfit.

The second man, aged 44, has been charged with possession of a Class A controlled drug.

Both are expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 23 September. As is standard procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
