Murder charges filed after 20-year-old fatally stabbed in Staffordshire

Two men have been charged with murder following the death of Jamie Evans, 20, from Stone, in Newcastle-under-Lyme, bbc.co.uk reports.

Staffordshire Police said Evans died in hospital after sustaining a single stab wound on Friday evening. Corey Hughes, 20, and Connor Edward Cartlidge, 22, have each been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

A 19-year-old man from Newcastle-under-Lyme, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, has been released on conditional bail. Hughes and Cartlidge remain in custody and are due to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Tuesday.

Officers were called to Orme Road shortly after 17:00 on Friday, following a report from West Midlands Ambulance Service of a collision involving a Ford Fiesta and a parked Audi. Evans was found at the scene with an injury consistent with a stab wound; police believe he sustained the wound before getting into the vehicle.

He was taken to hospital, where he later died.
