Google News MT — Crime (en) reports that a Fourth of July fireworks event in Avondale Estates, Georgia, descended into chaos on Saturday night after a man fired gunshots from his nearby home, sending attendees fleeing from Cobb Stadium.

Law enforcement officers assigned to the City of Avondale Estates' holiday fireworks show heard gunfire coming from a property close to the venue. Officers from the Avondale Estates Police Department and the DeKalb County School Police Department converged on the location and arrested 39-year-old Tyler Ladet at his home in the 1200 block of Berkeley Road within five minutes, authorities said.

A subsequent search of the property turned up two handguns and several shell casings in the backyard. Ladet was transported to the DeKalb County Jail and charged with reckless conduct and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Attendees at the fireworks show could hear the shots as they rang out. Video shared with FOX 5 showed a large police presence on the scene, with helicopters circling overhead and guests rushing away from the stadium.

One attendee, Italy Corwned, described the atmosphere in the immediate aftermath. "It was a chaotic scene, and I'm glad that everybody got home safe," Corwned said.

The City of Avondale Estates issued a statement acknowledging the disruption. "Saturday night's fireworks were meant to be a celebration for our community, but it was disrupted by dangerous, reckless behaviour outside the stadium," the statement read. Officials credited the rapid joint response by police for ensuring no one was harmed, adding that stadium staff worked quickly to reunite families and help attendees exit safely once the threat was removed.

Ladet appeared in court on 7 July and was denied bond by the judge. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled. It remains unclear whether any additional suspects are connected to the weapons recovered at the property.

The information was gathered from a press release by Avondale Estates Police Chief Harry Hess and the City of Avondale Estates.
