Bronx Man Arrested After Deadly Stabbing in Jamaica Park
A 53-year-old Bronx man has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a homeless man at Major Mark Park in Jamaica, Queens, qns.com reports.
Abdullah Spencerel, of Ogden Avenue in Highbridge, was booked at the 103rd Precinct on Wednesday afternoon, hours after the attack. He faces charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
Officers from the 103rd Precinct responded to a 911 call at 4:45 a.m. reporting an assault in progress inside the park, located across from an apartment building at 87-70 173rd St. They found the victim with two stab wounds to the chest. EMS personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police canvassed the surrounding area with a witness, who spotted Spencerel walking several blocks from the park, according to a law enforcement source. He was initially taken into custody as a person of interest.
Nearly eight hours after his initial detention, Spencerel was formally arrested and charged. Multiple witnesses told investigators they had seen him arguing with the victim before stabbing him twice in the chest and fleeing.
An NYPD spokesman was unable to provide details on the nature of the argument. The identity of the deceased remains pending family notification; investigators believe he was in his 30s.
Spencerel is expected to be arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Thursday.
