Cape Coral police lead eight-agency crackdown on granite fraud network
Jorge Garcia, born November 3, 1995, was arrested on Friday, October 30, following a months-long multi-agency investigation into an international credit card fraud and racketeering operation, capecops.com reports. The scheme targeted businesses across South and Central Florida and caused more than $422,000 in financial losses.
The investigation was opened in April 2026 after officers responded to a business in Cape Coral's South Industrial area, where a large quantity of granite had been purchased using stolen credit card data. Detectives from the Economic Crimes Unit identified a pattern of identical fraudulent transactions spanning multiple municipal jurisdictions.
Given the scale and sophistication of the operation, the Cape Coral Police Department coordinated a joint initiative that brought together eight separate law enforcement agencies across the region.
Investigators established that Garcia worked in coordination with co-conspirators outside the United States, using compromised credit card information to fraudulently acquire large volumes of granite and other building materials. Detectives recovered hundreds of stolen granite slabs and returned them directly to the affected business owners.
Because the criminal network operated across the entire state, the Statewide Prosecutor's Office formally adopted the case for prosecution.
Garcia was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant and transported to Lee County Jail. Charges have been filed against him in connection with the fraud and racketeering scheme.
