Dallas suspect shoots himself after pointing gun at officers during warrant arrest

Dallas police released bodycam footage on Friday of a deadly confrontation at a motel along Interstate 35E in southern Dallas, fox4news.com reports.

The incident took place on Wednesday, when officers attempted to arrest 41-year-old Raul Casas, who was wanted on several felony warrants linked to domestic violence, drug offences, and evading arrest.

Officers had earlier spotted Casas driving in the area but lost sight of him. Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said the department used Flock camera technology to relocate the vehicle and trace it to a motel along I-35E.

Officers ordered Casas to exit a room he had entered with another person. He complied — but emerged pointing a long gun at officers, who then opened fire.

"Casas fell and dropped a handgun," said Dallas Police Major Bobbie Epperson, of the department's Crimes Against Persons Division. "He then picked it up while Officer Smith continued ordering him to drop the weapon. Seconds later, Casas shot himself."

Casas died at the scene. Chief Comeaux confirmed the case remains under investigation.

The shooting marks the 11th officer-involved shooting recorded by the Dallas Police Department so far this year, according to information presented at Friday's news conference.
