Man found shot dead on couch in ransacked Dixmoor home
A murder investigation is underway in south suburban Dixmoor after a 56-year-old man was found fatally shot inside a home in the 2000 block of West 146th Street, abc7chicago.com reports. Relatives discovered the body of Darrell Webb just before 1:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Webb was found dead on a living room couch in a house where he sometimes stayed to help care for an ailing relative. Bullet casings were scattered on the floor and the home had been ransacked.
Family members believe Webb was the victim of a violent crime. His brother, Lesley Webb Jr., described what he thinks happened. "Someone in the street bum rushed him, came in and shot him," he said. "No one deserves to get murdered. He worked all his life. No criminal record. Nothing."
Dixmoor Police Department Detective Hashi Jaco said investigators are still gathering evidence. "At this point in time, the information I have is that it is an ongoing investigation and we're trying to get all the evidence possible to see what we have," Jaco said. The Illinois State Police are assisting with the investigation, and no motive has been established.
Those who knew Webb described him as a quiet, low-profile man. He had an adult son and several grandchildren. He had most recently worked for a transport company and a railroad while helping to care for his elderly aunt.
"I don't know why nobody would do this," his brother said.
