Teenage girl calls 911 as father shoots mother in moving car

A teenage girl dialled 911 in the early hours of Monday 19 October after her father shot her mother while the family were travelling together in Sparks, Nevada, according to 2news.com.

Sparks Police officers responded at approximately 12:39 a.m. to the area of Veterans Parkway and E. Greg Street. The teenage caller told dispatchers she was still inside the vehicle and that her mother had been critically injured. Her identity is being withheld.

Police identified the suspect as Richard Avalos-Flores and the victim as Lorea Angulo.

At around 12:47 a.m., officers located the vehicle on Los Altos Parkway and attempted to carry out a traffic stop. Avalos-Flores refused to comply and fled. Officers pursued the vehicle onto Pyramid Highway, where they deployed a Pursuit Intervention Technique to bring it to a stop — temporarily shutting down that stretch of road.

Once the vehicle stopped, Avalos-Flores ignored repeated commands from officers and sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound while still inside the car. Officers removed the teenage girl from the vehicle; she was physically unharmed.

Angulo was found inside the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical aid was rendered to both individuals at the scene. Avalos-Flores was pronounced dead at the scene; Angulo was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.

Sparks Police Department detectives have assumed control of the investigation, which remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sparks police detectives or Secret Witness.
