Former Nashville paramedic convicted of double murder after reinstatement of charges

Matthew Konen, a former Nashville paramedic, was found guilty of the 2021 double murder of his wife Rachel Konen and her father David Rodgers, wsmv.com reports. A Montgomery County jury returned the verdict following a three-week trial.

District Attorney General Robert Nash announced that Konen was convicted on two counts: criminally negligent homicide and first-degree murder. Nash serves as district attorney general for the 19th Judicial District.

Konen was initially indicted in May 2025 — more than four years after the deaths. The case had previously stalled: in 2023, the State of Tennessee entered a Nolle Prosequi, effectively suspending the prosecution.

"If, however, further investigation develops proof establishing proof beyond a reasonable doubt, the charges may be reinstituted by way of the Grand Jury process," Nash said in a statement to WSMV4 at the time. "There are no other persons of interest in this case."

Renewed investigation ultimately produced sufficient evidence to bring the case back before a grand jury, leading to Konen's indictment and subsequent trial. Sentencing is scheduled for January 13.
