Kingston rape convict freed on personal recognizance despite prosecutors' objections
A 22-year-old Kingston man convicted of raping a woman at a house party in August 2023 was released without bail following his verdict, bostonherald.com reports.
Jason Webb was found guilty on two counts of rape and one count of indecent assault and battery on Tuesday, after eight and a half hours of jury deliberation at Plymouth Superior Court. He was acquitted on two additional counts of indecent assault and battery.
The case originated when South Shore Hospital notified Plymouth Police of a sexual assault in August 2023. Investigators later determined the incident had taken place in Kingston. According to Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz's office, the victim was assaulted in the early morning hours of August 26, 2023, at a house party held at Webb's home.
Following the conviction, prosecutors moved to revoke Webb's bail, impose a GPS monitoring bracelet, and issue a no-contact order barring him from approaching the victim. The presiding judge denied all three requests and released Webb on personal recognizance until his sentencing, scheduled for November 17.
Webb faces up to 20 years in state prison on each rape count and up to five years for each indecent assault and battery count.
