According to Google News GY — Georgetown, a man has been formally charged with murder following a fatal stabbing in Meriden, Connecticut, last week.

Just before 7 p.m. on a Friday, Meriden police officers responded to Green on the Green Smoke Shop on Pratt Street after reports of an injured person. Authorities said the stabbing did not occur inside the shop — 51-year-old victim Marcus Mitchell had fled there seeking help after being attacked nearby on Pratt Street, close to the Green.

Store staff and bystanders assisted Mitchell until first responders arrived. He was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Meriden detectives identified Issac Nelson as the suspect. Nelson was taken into custody on unrelated charges several hours after the stabbing. On Wednesday, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Nelson. Two days later, Nelson — still incarcerated on the separate charges — was formally charged with Mitchell's murder.

Nelson is being held on a $1.5 million bond in connection with the stabbing, in addition to a $2 million bond related to the earlier, unrelated incident that led to his initial arrest. Police have not disclosed the nature of that separate incident.
