Shooting at Spirit Halloween store leaves one dead and six injured in Fairfield

One person was killed and six others were wounded in a shooting inside a Spirit Halloween costume store in Fairfield, California, on Friday evening, fox17.com reports.

Fairfield Police Department Chief Dan Marshall said officers were called to the Solano Town Center at around 8:30 p.m. following reports of gunfire and arrived to find seven shooting victims. One person died at the scene; the remaining six were transported to hospital. At least three of those wounded were in critical condition, Marshall added.

The victims had not been identified as of Saturday morning. Police described the mall as an active crime scene while detectives interviewed witnesses and worked to establish the identity of the shooter. No arrests had been announced.

The attack occurred on the eve of Halloween at the shopping centre in Fairfield, located roughly 45 miles northeast of San Francisco. Marshall said the gunfire appeared to have been concentrated inside the costume store, though investigators had not released information about what triggered the shooting or whether any of the victims were known to the assailant.

The incident drew a large police presence at the mall, with officers searching surrounding areas as they gathered evidence, according to local reports. Authorities have not confirmed whether one or more shooters were involved.

Police urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the Fairfield Police Department.
