Dallas Pair Held in Texas Pending Extradition After Crypto Robbery Bid in South San Jose

Two men from Dallas, aged 19 and 20, have been arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery at a residential property in South San Jose, California, according to abc7news.com. Investigators believe the suspects deliberately targeted victims thought to hold substantial cryptocurrency holdings.

The case began on 5 September, when a resident contacted police after reviewing his home surveillance footage. He reported seeing two men approaching his door while posing as parcel delivery workers. San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih described what the camera captured: one of the suspects was wearing a ski mask and brandished a firearm. The two men fled before officers reached the scene.

Detectives from the department's Robbery Unit then launched what Shih called a "comprehensive investigation." Using automated licence plate reader technology — including data drawn from the city's Flock camera network — investigators identified the suspect vehicle. That trail eventually led authorities more than 1,700 miles away to Dallas.

San Jose detectives coordinated with Dallas Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and SJPD's own Covert Response Unit. On 24 September, the two suspects were located and taken into custody in Dallas. Investigators released photographs showing multiple weapons and additional evidence seized during the arrests.

Police have indicated the pair may be linked to similar offences across several Bay Area jurisdictions, including Atherton. Shih urged anyone with relevant information to contact SJPD detectives directly.

"Considering that these two suspects came from Dallas and targeted not just San Jose but other jurisdictions, there is a possibility that they could target more people and that they have done that already," Shih said.

The suspects face charges including attempted robbery, vehicle theft, and firearms offences. They remain in custody in Texas while awaiting extradition to the Bay Area.
