Double homicide at Great Wolf Lodge in the Pocono Mountains

A 27-year-old woman from Towanda, Pennsylvania, has been charged with two counts of homicide after fatally stabbing her husband and young son inside a guest room at the Great Wolf Lodge water park resort, nbcnews.com reports. Authorities described the Monday afternoon incident as "an isolated domestic tragedy."

Officers from the Poconos Township Police Department responded to the resort at 3:13 p.m. after a distressed caller in Room 2030 told a dispatcher she needed help committing suicide. When police arrived, the caller — identified as Metallica Rose Harrison — was found with wounds to her body.

Inside the room, officers discovered the bodies of Harrison's husband, Charles Harrison, and the couple's 3-year-old son. Both victims had been stabbed in the chest, according to a criminal complaint cited by NBC affiliate WGAL. Police immediately opened a homicide investigation.

Harrison had reportedly directed the dispatcher to the bodies before officers arrived. The affidavit quoted her as saying: "My husband and son are already gone in the bed in the living room. They're already gone. I'm sorry."

A judge ordered Harrison held without bail on Tuesday. It was not immediately clear as of Wednesday whether she had hired or been appointed an attorney.

The Poconos Township Police Department confirmed there is no threat to the wider community. "Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy," the department said in a statement.

Great Wolf Lodge also issued a statement expressing grief over the incident. "We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by a tragic domestic incident that occurred yesterday in a guest room at our resort in the Pocono Mountains," the resort said, adding that it is cooperating fully with law enforcement.

The resort, a well-known family vacation destination, is located roughly 100 miles north of central Philadelphia and approximately 90 miles west of Midtown Manhattan.
