Two charged, one at large after man found dead in burnt vehicle on Reesor Road
Global News Crime reports that Toronto police have arrested two people in connection with the death of Marcus Charles, 32, whose body was discovered inside a burned vehicle last month.
Officers were called to a hydro field on Reesor Road, near Steeles Avenue East, at approximately 11:24 p.m. on September 21. When crews reached the scene of a reported vehicle fire, they found a body inside. The victim was subsequently identified as Charles.
An investigation determined that three individuals were involved in his death. Rushon Powell, 25, has been charged with first-degree murder. Shakurwa Jeffrey, also 25, faces a charge of accessory after the fact to murder. Both were scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre earlier Monday at 9:30 a.m.
A third suspect, Devondre Hall, 25, of Toronto, has not been located. Police have released his photo and issued a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
The Reesor Road fire was not the only fatal vehicle fire that night. Less than two hours later, police were called to James Garden Park in Etobicoke at 12:55 a.m. on September 22. Witnesses reported smoke rising from the park and sounds resembling an explosion. Crews arrived to find the body of Mohamud Kheyre inside a burned car. No charges in that case were mentioned in the report.
