A 31-year-old employee of the Airport Security Police was taken into custody after being identified as the perpetrator of a romantic scam that ended with the theft of belongings from a 64-year-old pensioner in Quilmes, province of Buenos Aires. The accused was identified as Lucía Fernanda Dias Da Mota.
The incident took place at the end of April. The victim, a resident of that locality in Buenos Aires province, had contacted the woman through a social network designed for personal meetings. They agreed to go to dinner and, after the meal, moved to the victim's apartment.
Once inside the property, both had drinks. According to the victim's account, minutes later he lost consciousness. Upon recovering, he presented signs of intoxication that required his hospitalisation. When he was able to return to his home, he discovered he was missing four million local pesos, four thousand euros, watches, perfumes, a suitcase and clothing.
The investigation began with the mobile telephone number that the victim had saved. Tracers determined that the line was registered in the name of an older person, whose characteristics did not match the description of the date. Exploring that woman's profile on a social network, they found an image from ten years ago showing her with several young women. One of them had tags that matched the suspect's surnames and her appearance corresponded with the description provided by the victim.
Deepening the inquiry, investigators discovered a professional account belonging to the defendant on an employment platform. There she was listed as an administrative employee of the airport security force, with duties at Ezeiza airport. Using her identity number, it was confirmed that she lived in that area and that her mother was the owner of the social media profile initially reviewed.
The element that closed the circle was the location of the woman's mobile device, recorded in the vicinity of the victim's building at the time of the crime. Furthermore, the building's cameras filmed her leaving the premises at 3:34 in the morning on Sunday, 26 April, carrying a suitcase, a backpack and two bags.
