A 31-year-old official who worked at Ezeiza airport terminal was apprehended by authorities after being accused of perpetrating a scam against a Quilmes resident. The criminal operation, known as the "black widow" scheme, involved gaining the man's trust through a dating platform before drugging him and stealing his possessions.
The victim, Cayetano, is 64 years old and lives in a building in that Buenos Aires locality. At the end of April, he made contact with the now detained Lucía Fernanda Dias Da Mota through Bumble. The two agreed to meet in person: they dined together first and then went to the pensioner's apartment, arriving shortly after one-thirty in the morning on Sunday the 26th.
The building's video surveillance system recorded the couple in the lobby, where they exchanged kisses before going upstairs. However, the evening took a dark turn. The victim recounted that after consuming a drink offered to him by the woman, he lost consciousness. Hours later he woke up with ailments that required him to be taken to a health centre, where he had to remain under observation.
Upon returning home, Cayetano noticed the absence of numerous items. The haul included a substantial sum in local currency, European currencies, fragrances, a suitcase, watch parts and clothing. The building's recordings proved crucial: at three-thirty in the morning the suspect is seen leaving the premises carrying a suitcase, a rucksack and two bags.
The mystery was solved through a thorough investigation of virtual platforms. The victim had kept the phone contact from his date, which turned out to be registered in the name of an older woman. When investigators traced the Facebook profile of that person, they found an old image in which several young women appeared. One of them, identified as "Dias Fernanda", bore a resemblance to the physical description provided by the man and to the recordings he had supplied.
Deepening their search, officers discovered a LinkedIn account where the accused appeared as an assistant with the Airport Security Police. Using her identification number, they confirmed her address in Ezeiza and her family link to the holder of the telephone line. Additionally, they found accounts on other networks where she shared moments of her everyday life.
The piece of evidence that ultimately confirmed the accusation was the geographical location of her mobile phone, which coincided exactly with the area of the victim's apartment at the time of the incident.
