Young man arrested in Rafaela after being found with firearm in street
A 25-year-old man was detained on Saturday in the city of Rafaela, province of Santa Fe, after being intercepted by officers of the Radio Command whilst carrying a firearm in public. The arrest came after neighbours alerted authorities and resulted in the seizure of the weapon and a motorcycle at his residence.
The incident occurred in the afternoon, when a call to the emergency services centre reported a man moving armed along J. R. Armando street, a thoroughfare connecting the Jardín and Antártida Argentina neighbourhoods. Police units travelled to the scene and found the suspected offender, whom they restrained without resistance.
The arrested man was subsequently taken to Police Station No. 15, the facility with jurisdiction over the area. From there, the prosecution in charge ordered a search of the detainee's home, where officers found and seized the weapon he was carrying moments earlier, along with a motorcycle.
The judicial authority determined that the young man should be held as a detained person on notice, which means his detention under police supervision whilst the investigation develops. So far, no information has been disclosed regarding the origin of the revolver or whether the motorcycle is linked to other crimes.
Rafaela, capital of Castellanos department, concentrates a significant portion of the population of the interior of Santa Fe. In recent months, local authorities have stepped up prevention operations in various sectors of the city in response to growing complaints about illegal possession and carrying of firearms, as well as robberies.
