Jonathan Pinto, a 30-year-old man, was fatally stabbed in the Neuquén town of Añelo on the night of 7 July. The crime occurred while the group to which the victim belonged was in a bar watching an Argentina national team match. The main suspect, with the initials V.A.C., was apprehended minutes later and is now being held in pre-trial detention by court order.
According to the reconstruction carried out by prosecutor Eugenia Titanti, Pinto had arrived at the venue with his girlfriend and several acquaintances. During the broadcast, the attacker began to harass the victim's partner. A friend of Pinto came to their defence, which led to a brawl. Faced with the conflict, everyone decided to leave the place.
The victim, however, returned to the bar later. Upon arriving at the pavement, he was intercepted by the killer and another man who has not yet been found. The first man wounded him with a knife; the second struck him while he lay on the ground.
Pinto managed to free himself from the attack, ran to the corner and collapsed there. The prosecutor stated that he died almost instantly due to massive thoracic haemorrhage caused by a stab wound that pierced his heart. In addition, he had six other knife wounds to the skull, chest and upper limbs.
Both attackers fled in a vehicle. When the alleged killer returned to the bar, police officers arrested him. The second person involved remains at large.
At the control hearing, judge Juan Pablo Encina confirmed the charges, established four months for the investigation and ratified the detention for six months. The measure was based on the danger that the suspect might flee or interfere with the case.
