Colombian sought by Interpol arrested in Buenos Aires over Uribe Turbay assassination
A Colombian national, wanted via Interpol red notice for his alleged involvement in the murder of Colombian senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, has been arrested in the city of Buenos Aires.
According to information released by Argentina's National Security Ministry, the arrest was made on Wednesday. The individual had an active arrest warrant and was being pursued by Colombian judicial authorities, accused of having planned and carried out a terrorist attack in Bogotá.
The Colombian official was shot in June 2025 while conducting campaign activities in the capital of his country. Although he was transported alive to a medical centre, he died two months later from his injuries. The incident was classified as an assassination and generated deep political upheaval.
The capture on Argentine soil will now allow Colombia to request the extradition of the suspect, who must face justice in his country for his alleged responsibility in the attack.
