Driver struck a police officer in Aluminé during sports celebrations and was apprehended
A 26-year-old man was apprehended in Aluminé, Neuquén, after striking a member of the security forces during celebrations following the national team's victory over Cape Verde. The suspect fled the scene without providing assistance to the injured person.
The incident occurred on Friday night when the young man, driving a red Volkswagen Gol, struck the uniformed officer. Footage that went viral on digital platforms shows the moment of impact, and also reveals that a neighbourhood woman sustained minor contusions.
Following the accident, residents and police officers attended to the injured sergeant. In parallel, an operation was launched to find the perpetrator. According to Infobae, the vehicle was located at a house near avenida RIM 26 and Monseñor Cagliero, with the assistance of neighbours who provided key information.
Investigators found the car in the house's yard. They requested judicial authorisation to enter, examined the vehicle, took photographs, and gathered information that would help clarify how the incident occurred.
Shortly before midnight, the accused exited the house and verbally assaulted the officers, throwing blunt objects at them. In response, he was subdued, detained, and taken to a hospital for a health evaluation. Subsequently, the representative of the Public Prosecutor's Office, Laura Pizzipaulo, ordered that he be held in a police station.
The victim was identified as Bernardo Troncoso, assistant sergeant. He was first treated at the medical facility in Aluminé, where doctors confirmed he had multiple traumatic injuries. As he required more complex analysis, he was transferred to a medical centre in San Martín de los Andes, where he remains under medical supervision. Medical reports indicate that he will need to refrain from his work duties whilst he recovers.
