Whisky smuggling in Buenos Aires: 311 bottles seized from 29 supermarkets
The City Police confiscated 311 bottles of whisky illegally imported from Brazil and Paraguay, valued at over 24 million pesos, from neighbourhoods across Buenos Aires.

Anti-smuggling operation: 311 whisky bottles seized in Palermo, Belgrano and Recoleta
The City Police seized 311 bottles of contraband alcoholic beverages valued at over 24 million pesos during inspections at 29 supermarkets in the neighbourhoods of Palermo, Belgrano, Saavedra and Recoleta, according to noticiasargentinas.com on 2 November.
The products had been labelled for commercialisation in Brazil and Paraguay but entered Argentine territory illegally. The absence of labelling in Spanish—an essential requirement for the sale of imported products—evidences an infraction of the Customs Code (Law 22415), which provides for fines and the confiscation of merchandise. Responsibility for that labelling falls on the importer.
Two operations, 29 premises inspected
The first operation covered eight businesses and resulted in the seizure of 152 whisky bottles valued at 12,320,000 pesos. The premises intervened are located at Thames 2300, Mansilla 3400, Aráoz 2400, Las Heras avenue 3700, Jorge Luis Borges 2400, Arévalo 1600, Santa Fe avenue 4900 and French 3100.
In the second procedure, eleven additional establishments were inspected, resulting in 159 whisky bottles confiscated valued at 11,840,000 pesos. The businesses are located at Pedro Rivera 4000, Amenábar 2500 and 2400, Vicente López 1700, Vidal 2000, Callao 2000, Zapiola 4300, Libertador avenue 8300, Sucre 2400 and Arcos 3800.
Joint intervention by security forces and customs
The raids were carried out by officers from the Judicial Technical Operations Unit (UTOJ), together with personnel from ARCA (Customs) and the Operations Division of the City Police (DIOC). Co-ordination between the three forces made it possible to simultaneously cover multiple points of sale distributed across different neighbourhoods in northern Buenos Aires.
