Mother and daughter arrested after theft and violent resistance at Alto del Bono Vea
Canal13sanjuan.com reported that on Friday evening a police operation took place at Alto del Bono Shopping, a shopping centre in San Juan, following the detection of two women accused of attempting to take goods from the Vea supermarket without paying for them.
Security staff at the establishment alerted authorities after discovering the suspects hiding items among their belongings and attempting to pass through the checkout line. Officers from the Radio Command and Special Surveillance Force of San Juan Police immediately mounted a lockdown operation at the complex's entrances.
When interviewed by officers, it was confirmed that those detained were a mother and her underage daughter. The young woman actively resisted: she assaulted the supermarket manager, struck the intervening police officers, and kicked a police vehicle to obstruct her transfer.
Facing an escalation of violence, the uniformed officers requested reinforcements and heightened security measures. Four San Juan Police patrol vehicles remained positioned in the complex's car park. To preserve the integrity of proceedings, authorities ordered both suspects to be transported in separate vehicles.
During the procedure, officers noticed the presence of a man dressed in civilian clothes who approached the police vehicles and attempted to speak with one of those detained. Investigators are analysing whether he acted as logistical support or had any degree of involvement in the offence.
Judicial sources confirmed that the minor was remanded to Juvenile Justice, whilst the mother will be tried in Flagrante Delicto court. The case fell under the jurisdiction of the Flagrante Delicto Fiscal Unit, which is coordinating proceedings with provincial police. Both women remain held at police headquarters awaiting the formalisation hearing.
In parallel, judicial staff are working on an inventory of the confiscated goods to determine the total amount the suspects intended to take.
