Police arrested a man in Añelo, Neuquén, accused of stabbing Jonathan Pinto to death following a fight in a bar during celebrations of Argentina's match. A judge ordered his preventive detention for six months.

Police apprehended a man identified as the perpetrator of the homicide of Jonathan Pinto, aged 30, which occurred in the Neuquén locality of Añelo during the early hours of 7 July, whilst the Argentine national team was playing its match against Egypt. An active search continues for a second individual who, although he did not wield the knife, participated in the beating of the victim when he was already on the ground.
According to the reconstruction made by prosecutor Eugenia Titanti, Pinto was in a bar with his partner and a group of friends to watch the match. In that setting, a man—later identified as the main aggressor—initiated a series of harassment towards Pinto's companion. One of the victim's friends intervened to defend her, which triggered a fight between the two.
Faced with the confrontation, Pinto and his group decided to leave the establishment. However, the victim returned shortly afterwards, at which point the main aggressor—known by the initials V. A. C.—and his accomplice were waiting for him on the pavement. They surprised him there: whilst the accused stabbed him, the other individual struck him repeatedly.
Pinto, despite his serious wounds, managed to break free and run several metres to a corner, where he collapsed and lost his life almost immediately. The cause of death was massive thoracic haemorrhage caused by a stab wound that pierced his heart. Additionally, he sustained six other cutting and puncture wounds to the skull, chest and upper extremities.
After carrying out the attack, both fled in a vehicle. A few minutes later, when V. A. C. returned to the bar, police officers apprehended him. The accomplice remains at large.
The prosecution requested preventive detention of the defendant for six months, citing flight risk and the possibility of obstructing the investigation. Judge Juan Pablo Encina upheld the request, set proceedings for four months and validated the precautionary measure for the requested six-month period.
