Security forces in Luque succeeded on Wednesday in apprehending a Paraguayan national who had been intensely sought by the neighbouring country's justice system for six years, accused of participating in a serious crime. The arrest took place in the urban centre of the city, in the course of a routine operation.

The head of the local force, José Santacruz, detailed that officers from the third police station were conducting usual checks when they intercepted the suspect. He attempted to pass himself off as another person by presenting an identity document that was not his, but the agents were not satisfied with the information provided and, after pressing during interrogation, unmasked his true identity.

The individual appears in search records for extradition purposes for aggravated homicide with characteristics of premeditation and committed in concert with at least one other person, a fact dating back to 2019 in Argentine territory. The legislation of the southern country provides for this type of offence a sentence that can reach five decades of imprisonment.

The criminal plot involves three brothers. The man captured in Paraguay is one of them. Another is already serving time in an Argentine prison, while the remaining one continues to evade justice.

Santacruz explained that the checks are carried out daily and that this result was achieved thanks to that permanent work. According to his words, the detainee confirmed that a relative is already imprisoned in Argentina and that another brother remains free. The search for the latter continues with the support of Interpol.

The case illustrates the cooperation between the security agencies of both countries to locate individuals who attempt to evade judicial action by crossing borders.
