The mechanism used was the so-called "confidence trick". Three men contacted the victim by telephone, impersonating a family member, and told him that he needed to gather all the dollars he had at his home because they would come to collect them.
Shortly afterwards, the suspects appeared at the residence in a vehicle, collected the money, and left the scene. The scheme allowed a significant amount of foreign currency to be taken.
Following the complaint, the local prosecutor's office opened an investigation that lasted several years. Police personnel from San Salvador provided evidence that allowed them to identify one of those involved in the incident.
As the case progressed, it was determined that the suspect was outside the province of Entre Ríos. For jurisdictional reasons, the arrest was carried out by the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires Police.
Once the procedure was completed, officials from San Salvador transferred the detainee to be placed at the disposal of local justice. The case remains under the supervision of the same prosecutor's office that directed the investigation alongside the provincial police force.
