Alert at Resistencia Airport: passenger detained for public intimidation on flight to Aeroparque
According to radionatagala.com, a passenger was detained in the early hours of Wednesday at Resistencia International Airport after shouting intimidatory remarks during the boarding process of a flight bound for Aeroparque Jorge Newbery. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. and resulted in the immediate suspension of the flight.
Chief Inspector Andrés Leyes, head of the Fire Department Division of the Chaco Province Police, explained the scope of the operation on the programme La Mañana de Natagalá. "Faced with this situation, protocols for this type of intervention were immediately activated, where Airport Security Police personnel initially intervened by proceeding to detain this person as a preventive measure and the obvious suspension of the flight," Leyes explained.
The Fire Department Division joined the operation under a cooperation agreement with Airport Security Police. The team deployed the explosives section and trained K9 dogs to search the external perimeters, accesses, luggage and the entire aircraft cabin.
"When dealing with a threat of this magnitude it is treated as genuine until specialised personnel rule it out," the chief inspector said, adding that the suspect remained detained under federal charges for the crime of public intimidation.
Passengers were evacuated preventively whilst the inspection was carried out. Leyes emphasised that the bag-by-bag search using the sense of smell of the K9 dogs took time, although he praised the equipment and training of local personnel, which made it possible to normalise the flight's departure during the early hours.
"This greatly helped ensure that this inspection was carried out in a reasonable timeframe," concluded the police chief.
Leyes characterised the incident as an isolated event and highlighted the coordinated response between the intervening forces as a key factor in resolving the incident without major consequences.
