Flight along the Panamericana ends with arrest in Saavedra
A driver evaded a security checkpoint in La Horqueta, San Isidro, and was arrested hours later in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Saavedra, following a pursuit that crossed the Panamericana motorway, according to minutouno.com.
The incident began at the intersection of Camino Morón and Carlos Tejedor, where officers from the San Isidro Municipal Patrol were conducting a routine vehicle operation. When attempting to stop a Fiat Siena, the driver accelerated and fled at high speed down Calle Uruguay towards the Panamericana, heading towards Buenos Aires City.
The chase ended in the Mitre neighbourhood, where the man abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot through the local streets. A joint operation involving officers from San Isidro and City Police personnel allowed him to be located and apprehended. During the procedure it was found that the driver was circulating with an expired licence and without valid compulsory insurance.
The case was placed under the responsibility of prosecutor Natalia Castronuovo, who ordered the arrest of the suspect. The man was transferred to the 9th police station in San Isidro. The Fiat Siena was removed from the location by a municipal tow truck, after the driver claimed he had lost the keys during the flight.
The San Isidro Municipality clarified that vehicle control operations are carried out daily at different points in the district, in coordination with the Buenos Aires Province Police and security forces from neighbouring municipalities. "They seek to identify persons with outstanding arrest warrants and to detect vehicles and motorcycles subject to judicial orders," the municipality stated.
In the last month, 3,100 operations were carried out, during which 1,019 citizens were identified, resulting in 194 arrests, and 518 vehicles and motorcycles were inspected, according to the same official source.
