A quarrel that began inside a bar in Añelo, Neuquén, while an Argentina national team match was being broadcast, ended with the death of a 30-year-old youth. The victim was identified as Jonathan Pinto.
According to the theory being pursued by prosecutors, Pinto was at the venue on 7 July with his partner, friends and female friends to watch the sporting event. In that setting, an individual who would later be identified as the killer began to harass the victim's girlfriend. One of Pinto's companions confronted him and a fight broke out.
In light of this situation, the group decided to leave the bar. However, Pinto returned to the location and there he was confronted on the pavement by the attacker and an accomplice. The main accused, whose initials are VAC, attacked him with a bladed weapon while his companion beat him on the ground.
Prosecutor Eugenia Titanti, who is handling the case, detailed that the victim, despite his serious injuries, managed to free himself and ran several metres to a corner, where he collapsed and died almost immediately. The cause of death was massive thoracic haemorrhage caused by a knife wound that pierced his heart. "In addition to that fatal injury, Pinto received six further wounds, cuts and stab wounds to his head, chest and hands," stated the representative of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
After carrying out the attack, both assailants fled in a motor vehicle. Minutes later, when VAC returned to the bar, police personnel intercepted him and took him into custody. The second participant in the crime remains at large.
As a precautionary measure, prosecutors requested that the accused remain detained under preventive custody for a period of six months. They based their request on the existence of a flight risk and potential obstruction of the investigation.
The judge of guarantees who presided over the hearing, Juan Pablo Encina, approved the laying of charges and set a four-month timeframe for investigation. Regarding the Public Prosecutor's Office's request for preventive custody, he granted it for a period of six months.
