Homicides in the course of robbery rose 12.9% in Buenos Aires in 2025
The Buenos Aires Provincial Attorney General's Office recorded 35 cases of homicide in the course of robbery in 2025, compared with 31 in the previous year. The total number of criminal cases fell by 6.4%.

The rate of homicides in the course of robbery in Buenos Aires province increased by 12.9% during 2025 compared with the previous year, according to the latest report from the Provincial Attorney General's Office, published on the official website of the Provincial Public Ministry. Infobae.com released the statistical data corresponding to Preliminary Criminal Investigations (IPP) initiated in the Criminal and Correctional Court (FCC) and in the Juvenile Criminal Responsibility Court (FRPJ).
According to official figures, 35 cases were opened for this offence in 2025: 27 were completed offences and 8 were classified as attempted offences. In 2024, there had been 31 reported incidents — 24 completed and 7 attempted.
Wilful and negligent homicides
In the broader category of homicides, 1,219 cases were recorded last year, of which 502 were completed offences and 717 remained at the attempted stage, representing an increase of 3.7% compared with 2024. Homicides criminis causa — killing to conceal another crime — fell by 8.8%. Total wilful homicides in the FCC reached 1,724 cases, a rise of 1.1%, driven by a 6.5% increase in attempted cases, whilst completed cases fell by 6% (44 fewer cases).
Negligent homicides, for their part, reached 1,269 cases initiated, 41 more than in 2024, equivalent to an increase of 3.1%.
Overall decline in total criminal cases
In 2025, 1,035,350 cases were opened throughout the province: 1,012,857 in the Criminal and Correctional Court and 22,493 in the juvenile court, which represent 2.2% of the total. Both courts recorded declines compared with 2024: the FCC fell by 6.4% and the FRPJ by 0.9%.
Lomas de Zamora, San Martín and Quilmes account for nearly one-third of investigations in the FCC. All judicial departments reported year-on-year declines, with La Matanza (-12%), Junín (-9.4%), La Plata (-9%) and Bahía Blanca and Necochea (-8.2%) among the most pronounced. In the juvenile court, Lomas de Zamora, La Plata and San Martín account for approximately 30% of IPP opened; some departments such as Moreno-General Rodríguez, Pergamino, San Martín and Trenque Lauquen showed increases.
Offences against property and sexual integrity
Offences against property constituted 37.5% of cases in the FCC and fell by 12.3%, with marked declines in aggravated vehicle theft on public roads (-21%), robbery (-16.1%) and aggravated robbery with use of a weapon (-12.4%). In the juvenile court, offences against property represented 28.8% of the total and showed a decline of 12.1%, with falls in robbery (-21%) and theft (-19.3%).
The total number of offences against sexual integrity fell by 1.5% in the FCC, with declines in simple sexual assault and sexual assault with penetration, but an increase of 16.9% in other categories, primarily production and distribution of sexual representations of minors and grooming.
Offences against persons and liberty
Offences against persons represented 12.3% of the total cases in the FCC in 2025, with an increase of 3.2% compared with the previous year. Cases involving minor injuries remained stable, whilst cases of negligent injury increased by 11.9%.
Offences against liberty in the FCC represented 10.8% of the total, with a rise of 2.9% driven by a 3.3% increase in threats, whilst cases of unlawful restraint and torture fell by 13.2%. In the juvenile court, offences against liberty represented 13.3% of IPP, with an increase of 12.2% explained by the 16% rise in threats.
In the FRPJ, offences against persons constituted 19.5% of the total, with a year-on-year increase of 7.7%. Completed wilful homicides rose by 12.9% and attempted homicides by 25.2%, accumulating an overall rise of 20.5%.
Drugs and public safety
Investigations related to offences against public safety totalled 84,697 cases, equivalent to 8.4% of the total in the FCC, whilst cases related to the Drugs Act remained stable in comparison with 2024.
Offences against the Public Administration reflected a 6.1% increase in disobedience and a 9.3% reduction in accessory to crime within the FCC. In the juvenile court, no significant changes were recorded in this category.
The report found, as explained by the Office of the Fiscal Public Ministry itself, "all IPP initiated by the Fiscal Public Ministry, whether for completed offences or attempted offences".
