Municipality of José C. Paz demands police reinforcement following Sol y Verde homicide

According to infoban.com.ar, the Municipality of José C. Paz demanded on Wednesday greater intervention by the Buenos Aires provincial government in matters of security, following the killing of David Elías Ojeda Vázquez in the Sol y Verde neighbourhood.

Through an official statement, the municipal administration noted that it has been implementing its own investments to strengthen crime prevention: the incorporation of video surveillance cameras, the expansion of preventive urban patrolling and the modernisation of monitoring centres.

Nevertheless, from the municipality they warned that local tools have limited scope. The leadership of the Buenos Aires Police and the design of crime prevention policies, they emphasised, fall under the remit of the provincial government.

In this context, they questioned the number of officers assigned to the district, the condition of patrol vehicles and the absence of a coordinated criminal intelligence strategy. They also denounced that municipalities must cover the cost of fuel and repairs for provincial vehicles from their own funds.

The José C. Paz administration called for a reinforcement of police presence in the neighbourhoods and concrete progress in the judicial investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crime.

"The Municipality of José C. Paz will continue to invest and care for each resident with the tools available, but the Province must react immediately," they said in the statement.
