An 18-year-old woman was apprehended on Tuesday in Villa Carlos Paz, Córdoba province, after physically attacking a police officer who was participating in the security operation mounted for celebrations of Argentina's national team victory over Egypt in the 2026 World Cup.
The violent incident occurred at approximately 17:50 in the Cruz Mayor area, where fans had gathered to celebrate the national team's qualification to the quarter-finals of the tournament. In that context, officers from the Punilla Department were alerted to a dispute between several people.
When the uniformed officers arrived at the location to end the altercation, the young woman lunged at one of them and struck him with a punch to the left ear, causing injuries to that area of the skull.
Following the assault, the officers proceeded to restrain the attacker and transported her in a patrol vehicle to the jail in the mountain city, where she was detained pending the magistrate overseeing the case.
The prevention operation in Carlos Paz was deployed throughout the day on account of the large-scale celebration that took place following the match played by the team managed by Lionel Scaloni.
