A 22-year-old man, David Elías Ojeda Vázquez, was murdered on Sunday in the Frino neighbourhood of José C. Paz when motorcycle thieves attempted to rob him of his motorcycle. According to cadena3.com, one of the criminals shot him in the back as he travelled along Poland Street, between Piñero and Matheu.
Neighbours who witnessed the attack called 911. The young man was rushed to Mercante Hospital, where he died shortly afterwards from his injuries.
"We demand that security be reinforced throughout the territory"
The Municipality of José C. Paz issued an official statement on Wednesday, which was accessed by Argentine News Agency, in which it expressed solidarity with the victim's family and directed a direct demand to the governor of Buenos Aires province, Axel Kicillof.
"Given the seriousness of what has occurred, we demand that the governor of Buenos Aires province, Axel Kicillof, reinforce security throughout the territory (...) and especially in our district," the official text states.
The statement furthermore emphasises that security "requires action" and maintains that the provincial Executive Power "must assume full and complete responsibility" for the situation.
Criminals on the run; one wore a Pedidos Ya backpack
The attackers managed to flee after the crime. Security forces are searching intensively for them. One of the suspects was identified by his backpack bearing the Pedidos Ya company brand, a detail that investigators have incorporated into their investigation.
