Arrest and drugs seized in police operation in Concordia
According to diarioriouruguay.com, personnel from various divisions of the Concordia Departmental Headquarters executed a preventive saturation operation on Tuesday in several neighbourhoods of the city, with public space controls, identification of persons and procedures related to alleged drug trafficking.
The deployment covered the neighbourhoods of Villa Busti, El Sol, San Agustín, Toronjal, María Goretti, Ex Molino, Gruta de Lourdes and Ex Aero Club. A total of 21 people were identified and controls were carried out on three motorcycles.
One of the procedures took place in the vicinity of Néstor Garat and Maipú streets, where officers identified two men. According to official information, one of them left a kiosk and, upon noticing the police presence, attempted to discard an item he was carrying. After being restrained by motorcycle personnel, the officers confirmed that it was a sock containing 18 doses of cocaine hydrochloride divided into portions and ready for sale.
Prosecutor Tomás Tscherning ordered the arrest of the suspect for the alleged crime of possession of drugs for purposes of trafficking. The second man was properly identified and released.
As part of the same operation, police personnel later intervened at the intersection of Chile and Pueyrredón streets. There they found a man surrounded by nylon cuttings, material commonly used for drug portioning. The officers also detected behaviour considered suspicious during the procedure, which they reported to the intervening prosecutor.
After obtaining a personal search warrant authorised by the Court of Guarantees, the officers found eight nylon envelopes containing cocaine hydrochloride in one of the man's pockets. The prosecutor ordered the man to be properly identified and for the appropriate proceedings to continue.
The procedures form part of the control and prevention tasks that the Entre Ríos Police have been carrying out in different sectors of the city.
