San Juan officer dismissed after conviction for violence and link to accident death
San Juan Police permanently severed its ties with officer Alex Simón Aciar, according to delsurdiario.com. The officer had accumulated a criminal conviction for violence against his former partner and was also facing investigation into a fatal traffic incident that occurred in 2021.
The decision came from an administrative inquiry conducted by the Undersecretariat for Inspection and Control of Public Security Management, which concluded that a serious violation had occurred and that the maximum sanction—dismissal—was appropriate.
The core of the case was a one-year conditional prison sentence for aggravated minor injuries caused by the domestic relationship, simple threats, and attempted aggravated robbery, all offences committed against his former partner. Added to this record was a report from the Police Health Department that determined Aciar did not meet the psychological conditions to perform security tasks; the department recommended reassigning him to administrative duties and removing his service firearm.
The officer had been under preventive suspension since November 2024 and had prior disciplinary records, including reprimands and suspensions. Police stated that his conduct damaged institutional prestige and the image of the force.
The second front involved a criminal case concerning the 2021 collision at the intersection of Circunvalación Avenue and Salta Street in the provincial capital. In that incident, Aciar struck Domingo Villafañe, a retired 72-year-old non-commissioned officer who was cycling; Villafañe died days later from his injuries.
With the involvement of the legal advisers of San Juan Police, the State Secretariat for Security and Public Order, and competent legal bodies, Aciar's permanent separation from the force was formalised.
