An investigation conducted by the provincial security force led to the seizure of two automobiles in separate operations carried out in the Santiago del Estero capital and in the city of La Banda. Both vehicles presented documentary or registration irregularities that prompted their detention by order of the competent prosecutors' offices.
The first operation took place in the Sudamérica neighbourhood, located in the Capital city. There, uniformed officers detected a Toyota Hilux van whose registration plates aroused suspicion. Once routine checks were carried out, the agents verified that the engine and chassis codes did not correspond with the information recorded in the registration document and other papers presented by the vehicle's driver. Subsequent investigations revealed that this unit had an active seizure order, stemming from a theft report filed in September 2024 in Buenos Aires territory. The requirement had been notified by the Argentine Federal Police through its national alert channels.
In parallel, a second operation was deployed at the intersection of San Martín avenue and Alem street, in the city of La Banda. On that occasion, the officers identified a Ford Mondeo car. Unlike the first case, the engine and chassis numbers did match the official records. However, queries made in the databases of the traffic and road safety system revealed that the car had a standing court order for improper retention, reported in recent days in the province of Salta.
By instruction of the representatives of the Prosecutor's Office acting in each case, both vehicles were transferred to police facilities, where they will remain in custody whilst judicial proceedings advance. The operations seek to clarify the chain of possession of each vehicle and to comply with the procedural measures ordered by the intervening courts.
The actions form part of the routine vehicle control operations that the provincial police carry out to detect units with a capture order, forged documentation, or irregular registration situations.
