Neighbours in a central area of Cipolletti alerted police to gunshots heard in the early hours of Sunday, triggering an operation that ended with the recovery of a vehicle subject to a seizure order for theft in Greater Buenos Aires.
The call came in around 7:45, when residents of Jorge Newbery and Avenida La Plata reported hearing gunshots coming from a white car passing through the area. Based on this information, officers deployed a search operation that led them to a Fiat Cronos travelling along Primeros Pobladores Street, heading north.
When agents attempted to intercept the vehicle, the driver accelerated to evade the checkpoint, initiating a chase that crossed multiple streets through the city. The car eventually stopped on Ceferino Namuncurá at 1400. The occupant quickly exited, threw a mobile phone into an adjacent property and locked himself inside. Shortly after, family members of the individual emerged with a confrontational attitude towards the uniformed officers, prompting a request for reinforcements to secure the situation.
Simultaneously, another unit travelled to the location where the gunshots had been heard. At that site, an 18-year-old teenager reported that he had previously had an argument with another young man who was travelling in the Fiat Cronos along with occupants of another car, a blue Peugeot 208. According to his account, after the confrontation both vehicles returned to the location and gunshots were fired from one of them. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
With authorisation from the duty prosecutor's office, a search of the vehicle was carried out. In the presence of witnesses, two spent .22 calibre cartridge casings were seized—one with a gold base bearing the inscription "A" and another silver one with the letter "C"—along with a rucksack containing cash.
The investigation took on greater significance when the engine and chassis numbers were verified: the Fiat Cronos had an active seizure order from a robbery committed in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires province, on 19 August. Following this, the vehicle was taken to the police station and the judicial cases were expanded to determine responsibilities.
