Court orders preventive detention of Lotocki in case involving injuries to Silvina Luna

The Criminal and Correctional Oral Court No. 28 of Buenos Aires ordered the preventive detention of Dr Aníbal Lotocki, a physician from Misiones, according to elterritorio.com.ar. The measure was adopted in the context of the case in which Lotocki was sentenced to eight years in prison for serious injuries caused to Silvina Luna, Pamela Sosa, Estefanía Xipolitakis and Gabriela Trenchi.
At first instance, the physician had received a sentence of four years in prison and special disqualification for five years from practising medicine, after being found guilty of repeated serious injuries against the four women. Subsequently, Chamber III of the National Criminal Cassation Court confirmed his responsibility, added a conviction for fraud to the detriment of Gabriela Trenchi, and increased the sentence to eight years in prison along with ten years' disqualification from practising medicine.
The aggravated sentence was upheld by Cassation, although it is not yet final: Lotocki's defence presented a complaint before the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation following the rejection of an extraordinary appeal.
The Court justified the detention order on the grounds that, since the last request filed in 2023, new procedural developments had occurred that altered the defendant's situation. Among these were the confirmation of the conviction by Cassation and the fact that only the Supreme Court's ruling on the defence's complaint remains outstanding.
