A Vienna court imposed an eight-year prison sentence on a teenager who stabbed an elderly woman on a cemetery in Penzing.

The Vienna Regional Criminal Court sentenced a 14-year-old girl to eight years in prison on Wednesday for killing a stranger on the Baumgartner cemetery in the Penzing district. In addition to the prison term, the judges ordered her placement in a forensic therapeutic facility.
The killing occurred on 23 February. The minor, who was living in a socio-psychiatric ward at the time, attacked a 64-year-old woman she did not know with a pocket knife on the cemetery. She inflicted numerous injuries to the woman's head and neck. The elderly woman succumbed to her wounds before leaving the cemetery.
Court experts testified that the defendant was fully criminally responsible. She has a borderline personality disorder and behavioural problems. She also uses drugs. The experts warned of a high risk of reoffending with serious crimes.
According to investigations, the teenager photographed the victim after the attack and sent the pictures on. She also saved a video recording of the incident on her mobile phone.
The convicted woman is currently detained at Asten correctional facility in Upper Austria. The verdict can still be appealed.
