A 21-year-old Austrian has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for planning a terrorist attack at a concert by singer Taylor Swift in Vienna.

A 21-year-old Austrian citizen has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for the preparation of a terrorist act. The man, known only under the name Beran A., had planned an attack on a concert by US singer Taylor Swift scheduled to take place at Vienna's Ernst-Happel Stadium in August 2024.
The court found him guilty of membership in a terrorist organisation and the preparation of a terrorist offence. According to the indictment, the convicted man had joined the so-called Islamic State and planned to attack concertgoers with knives or homemade explosives. Shortly before the verdict was announced, he expressed remorse, stating: "I just want to say that I am sorry."
The three planned concerts of the "Eras Tour" were cancelled following the discovery of the attack plan. Tens of thousands of fans had purchased tickets for the events. The convicted man has been in investigative custody since August 2024.
A second suspect, Arda K., was also charged. Both are alleged to have planned simultaneous attacks in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates during Ramadan. However, Beran A. denied involvement in those plans.
