28-year-old attacks police officers in Vienna's Meidling district after attempted escape
On Monday afternoon, a violent assault on an executive officer took place on Eichenstrasse in Vienna's Meidling district. A 28-year-old man had previously stepped onto the tram tracks, which drew the attention of the patrol unit.
The officers ordered the youth to use the pedestrian area instead. The 28-year-old then allegedly insulted the officers and made mocking hand gestures in their direction. He subsequently attempted to evade police custody by fleeing.
After a short pursuit, the officers managed to stop the man. During his arrest, he allegedly pulled one officer to the ground and struck him repeatedly. Even after being restrained, he continued to resist fiercely, kicking and biting.
The attacked police officer received initial medical treatment from the ambulance service and was subsequently transferred to hospital. He suffered only minor injuries and was able to continue his patrol afterwards.
The suspect must now answer charges of resistance against state authority and grievous bodily harm. He was remanded in custody and transferred to a detention facility.
