Initially, they distribute links via text message or email, supposedly from the tax authority. Those who click on them are supposed to disclose their account details. In a second step, the perpetrators call their target victims and impersonate employees of the financial institution.
They then claim that unauthorised intruders have compromised the account. To ward off the alleged attack, they say confirmations in the digital banking portal are needed immediately. However, rather than providing protection, these approvals redirect money transfers to foreign accounts.
Security authorities advise removing unsolicited messages without opening them. Links from dubious sources should be ignored. Anyone who feels uncertain can log in directly via the official website of the tax administration. Strangers must not be granted access to electronic devices. It is recommended to end suspicious telephone calls immediately and contact your own credit institution via a known number.
