Drug handover in Vienna-Meidling ends with Cobra deployment and six arrests
A drug deal took place in an apartment in Vienna-Meidling in which approximately 2.1 kilograms of marijuana and nearly 1.2 kilograms of cocaine changed hands. According to 5min.at, a 47-year-old Slovenian drug courier met three buyers aged 25, 28 and 35.
The deal did not go as planned: the buyers handed the courier a package that looked like a bundle of cash from the outside, but was largely stuffed with plastic bags inside. Immediately after the handover, one of the suspects jumped out of the apartment window with the drugs.
The escape ended in front of the building: officers from the Cobra special operations unit intercepted the man. All four people involved were detained provisionally on the spot. Police seized a four-figure sum of genuine cash as well as all the drugs from the 35-year-old suspect, according to a statement by the authorities.
On the same evening, the special unit deployed to Vienna-Leopoldstadt. In an apartment attributed to a 36-year-old Moroccan, whose resident is considered the alleged instigator, a forcible search yielded a further 442 grams of cocaine and 1,150 euros in cash. The 36-year-old and an 18-year-old Austrian woman who was also in the apartment were arrested.
In total, six people are in custody. Criminal investigators are conducting further interviews and investigations.
