Drug-focused operation in Vienna: 57-year-old flees from police twice
An incident occurred on Thursday, 18 June 2026, at approximately 16:15 in Vienna's 15th district during a targeted operation against drug crime. Two men fled as soon as they spotted members of the rapid-response unit.
Officers pursued the pair briefly and were able to stop them. During the check, they noticed the smell of cannabis. In subsequent body searches, they found what was believed to be marijuana and Substitol preparations.
When the officers became aware that one of those detained – a 57-year-old man with German citizenship – had outstanding fines totalling over €4,000, they informed him of this. The suspect then shoved an officer aside and attempted to flee again. Law enforcement had to use physical force to take him into custody.
