The former partner of a woman from Graz has admitted to killing the 31-year-old. The man is from Slovenia and is currently being held in custody on remand. During his interrogations, he stated that he had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crime. This was confirmed by the prosecution.

The body of the young woman was discovered last Saturday in the Slovenian border area. It was lying in a suitcase that had been buried in the forest. Preliminary findings from the forensic examination show that the Graz woman died from severe violence to the neck area. Distinct bruises indicate that she was strangled. Injuries were also found on her face. According to a spokeswoman for the prosecution, a stab wound to the neck was not life-threatening. The possible murder weapon has remained missing to date.

Investigators are hoping for further information from the public. Several people reported that a strange man was in the stairwell and in the area around the murdered woman's flat in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to current knowledge, this unknown man has no direct connection to the crime. Nevertheless, he could provide important information for the investigation. The State Criminal Police Office of Styria is asking the man or anyone who recognised him to get in touch on 059/133 60 3333.
