An unknown man is believed to have paid with forged €100 notes in several Vienna shops. The police have now released photographs of the alleged perpetrator and are appealing for information.

Between late March and late April, an unknown man is believed to have paid with counterfeit money in at least three shops in Vienna. The alleged incidents occurred on Mariahilfer Straße, at Fleischmarkt and on Kärntner Straße.
According to investigators, the suspect claimed to want to purchase items of low value. He initially handed sales staff a genuine €100 note. Shortly afterwards, he claimed he would prefer to pay with coins and asked to have the note returned.
Since he allegedly did not have sufficient change on him, he produced a different €100 note. It is believed that through quick finger movements he undetectably swapped the genuine banknote for a forgery. He then accepted the change in cash.
In some cases the fraud did not succeed. Where the forgery was discovered, the man hurriedly left the shop and took the goods.
The wanted man is approximately 40 years old and around 165 centimetres tall. He has stubble and usually appeared wearing a black cap with an "NY" logo, a black jacket and sometimes a black shoulder bag.
In the course of the investigation, photographs of the man were obtained. On the instruction of the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office, the State Police Directorate has now released images of the suspect and is appealing for relevant information.
