On Monday evening at approximately 19:45, guests returned to their hotel room in Vienna's Favoriten district and found an unknown man inside. The intruder had made himself comfortable in the bed and was asleep. The affected guests immediately alerted the hotel management, which in turn called the police.
When officers arrived, they searched the man's rucksack. Inside they discovered a passport, a credit card and a key ring belonging to one of the hotel guests. Additionally, the responding officers found a reportedly stolen mobile telephone on the suspect and a small quantity of cannabis.
In the course of the investigation, it emerged that the 33-year-old had made multiple unsuccessful attempts to shop online using the stolen credit card.
The man was reported to the authorities on suspicion of breaking and entering theft, attempted fraudulent misuse of data processing, as well as violations of the Narcotics Act and the Aliens Police Act. As there was also an outstanding arrest warrant due to a valid entry ban for the federal territory, the suspect is currently in custody.
