A 15-year-old Afghan triggered an extensive pursuit in Vienna-Favoriten on Monday evening, during which police officers fired two warning shots. According to Google News AT – Crime (de), the flight ended only after a search operation in the area of the Amalienbad.
At around 20:15, officers from the Vienna police tactical unit were on patrol as part of a crackdown on juvenile crime. During this time, they observed two youths exchanging an unknown object, raising suspicion of drugs. When the police officers attempted to conduct a check, one of the youths got on an e-scooter and rode off – he ignored several requests to stop.
The officers initially pursued him by patrol car. The teenager fled, among other places, through Alfred-Böhm Park and an adjacent residential complex, whereupon police officers continued the pursuit on foot. One officer announced the use of weapons and subsequently fired two warning shots in the direction of a green area – but this did not stop the fugitive. He initially managed to escape.
Shortly afterwards, emergency personnel spotted the 15-year-old again in the area of Favoritenstraße. He again attempted to flee on the e-scooter. Officers from the tactical unit finally stopped him in the area of the Amalienbad.
Officers from the Regional Traffic Division then examined the vehicle more closely: in a roller test, a maximum speed of 41 km/h was measured. Throughout the entire flight, police identified 17 traffic violations. A summary magistrate immediately imposed a fine of €5,260 on the teenager.
According to police, it is not yet clear whether the originally observed exchange actually involved drugs.
