Murder in St. Veit an der Glan: 27-year-old beat to death new friend of ex-partner
In the early morning hours of Saturday, a fatal attack occurred in St. Veit an der Glan. A 27-year-old man broke into the flat of his former partner at around 2.00 a.m. using a key he still had in his possession. The flat also contained the 30-year-old woman, her new 29-year-old friend and two minor children.
The woman was awakened by noises and looked to see what was happening. Suddenly, the intruder attacked her with an axe, as police spokesman Werner Pucher described. Despite serious injuries, she managed to escape and alert the officers.
In the meantime, the 27-year-old turned on the 29-year-old man and killed him. He then took his ex-partner's car keys, drove on the S37 towards Klagenfurt and crashed head-on into an oncoming lorry shortly after St. Veit. The perpetrator died at the scene of the accident. The 45-year-old lorry driver suffered from shock.
Whether and to what extent the children witnessed the deed remained unclear initially. The state criminal office has taken over the investigation.
